Will Work For Free

I attended the Career Seminar sponsored by the College of Humanities today and it was one of the most helpful things that I have done in a long time. Being an English major, I struggle with what I want to do with the degree I am earning. Not to mention the fact that I could possibly be living in Poland in the next 5 years.

It started with a presentation by a rep from career services (a place that I plan on paying a visit to really soon) and then transitioned into 3 different breakout sessions that allowed you to choose which area you would like to focus on. I chose the social work, international development, and writing/editing/publishing.

The questions I had in mind throughout these panels were 1. What can I do this Summer? How can I get a job in Dallas that will provide me with "real-world" experience? 2. What should I do after I graduate?
I didn't really get any answers, but I think that now I know where to start looking.

The best part of the seminar was hearing every single panel say that the best way to get an internship is to do an unpaid. As in just work for free. Don't ask me how it is possible to stay alive while you are working for free, especially since Summer is usually the time that students take to make money to support themselves throughout the rest of the year.

So I have some ideas, and I need to start researching. And I might end up working for free.

Krys-I don't think there is any such thing as "comment rape", whatever happened between us was completely consensual. I will be sending you a little relationship summary through Facebook soon.
